Towards Maturity

In order to rectify officials and consolidate imperial power, rulers of Song dynasty formulated and implemented a rigorous avoidance system. The contents of avoidance system are multifarious and have various forms, including kinship avoidance, regional avoidance, special positions avoidance, imperial examination avoidance, serving time avoidance, and so on. In this paper, I will focus on the kinship avoidance and regional avoidance, study the change of the two systems, special operation in certain areas and the gap between the ideal and real operate. It is based on time line and supplemented with space line.This thesis includes four sections.In the first section, I have discussed the origin and characteristics of the avoidance system. It includes the application in modern society, the history of avoidance system, avoidance system of Song Dynasty and new characteristics. The review and sum-up on avoidance system is based on time line.In the second section, I have discussed issues related to avoidance system of the Song Dynasty. Based on space clues, this paper try to discuss the reason of the maturity of the law, special policies for special areas and gaps between ideal and operation to recur avoidance system of the Song Dynasty, with full and live image.In the third section, I have discussed the positive aspects and historical limitations of Song avoidance system. It has benefits in the prevention of local separatism, the corruption in economy and judiciary. At the end of the section, it pointed out the limitations of the system, and the reason why corruption can not be eliminated by this system.In the fourth section I have discussed the experience while studying the avoidance system and something can be used for modern administration.Overall, the avoidance system of the Song Dynasty has produced a positive impact to Song dynasty and later period, but it can not fundamentally solve the problem of corruption.
