Terminology Derived From The New Era Of Research Semantic

In the new phase, many terms (includes jargons and technical terms) derive new meaning out of their professional one, thus make a breakthrough of the professional field into the public speech, and they changed greatly not only in their semantic, but also in the scope of their using. Allusion to these linguistic phenomena, this thesis, based mainly on the 2003 edition of Xinhua Dictionary of New Words published by the Commercial Press, classified and analyzed the terms edited in this dictionary that derived new meaning, mainly analyzed two ways of semantic derivation: metaphor and metonymy, and sum up the characteristic of semantic derivation in the new phase through the analysis of the semantic change and of the scope of using, and therefore holds that the process of semantic derivation of terms is a change from the temporary new meaning and usage to the fixed one, that this process is, in essence, a process from words to language, thus, individual, specific and temporary usage will transform into the element of language after the established usage by the mass. The consequence of semantic derivation, while compared with the original meaning, will either conform to or be contrary to the original one. The reason for the semantic derivation of terms shall be interpreted in four aspects: the demand of the social development and technological progress, the restriction of language element proper, the mass's psychological need for the new, for the different and for the elegant, the cognitive mechanism of language. The exploration of production mechanism of semantic derivation from the perspective of cognitive linguistics is also the cognitive metaphor and metonymy mode of human being. Finally, this thesis simply explains the linguistic phenomena's influence upon the vocabulary system of modern Chinese language.The semantic derivation of terms is to convey new meaning by means of the original form, and it is an important way for the production of new words, thus, it should be attached enough importance to. This linguistic phenomena is worthy of the profound research by the researcher of modern Chinese language so as to search for the law of the vocabulary change and development in the new phase.
