"Source Of World Culture" And "Overseas Culture"

Taking the literary studies works of Su Xuelin (1897-1999,who had been a famous contemporary Chinese scholar and writer) as research subject,this dissertation analyzed the cross-cultural comparison in her works, illustrated the grand perspective and comparative consciousness in her research as well as her bravery in exploring the essence of Chinese culture.There are three parts in this dissertation:the Introduction,the Body and the Conclusion.The Introduction part summarized the life and works of Su Xuelin,,as well as the present domestic and overseas research situation on her.There are four chapters in the Body part .The first chapter focuses on her research on YUAN QU's essays,analyzed the two important opinions—"only one source for world culture"and the"overseas culture theory"—of her, and then commented on the clear-cut viewpoint of comparative culture embodied in her research.The second chapter focuses on Su Xuelin's research articles on the history of classical Chinese literature,analyzed the characteristics with which she combined the modern West literature and the classical Chinese literature together when she constructed the history of the poems of Tang Dynasty.On one hand,this chapter commented on her attempt to construct the history of the poems of Tang Dynasty with the theory of modern western arts;on the other,this chapter commented on the feather with which she constructed the history of the poems of the Tang Dynasty according to the history of western literature .The third chapter takes her comment on modern Chinese literature as research subject, focusing on her clear perspective of cross-cultural comparison embodied in her research in the light of her exploration of the relationship between modern Chinese literature and the overseas culture and her adoption of the views of the other to look into modern Chinese literature. The fourth chapter analyzed her dialectic attitude towards national culture and alien culture while she made the cross-cultural comparison,it is,taking the example of the west but do not assimilated by it .The conclusion part praised her comparative perspective and dialectic attitude with which she did her Chinese literature research and holds that this research method is of special significance to use for reference in a time when Chinese international cultural communication and comparative culture studies have had a major breakthrough.
