Research On Kim Ki-yeom's Film

In the late 1990s, with the revival of Korean economics, loosen of film censorship, Korean films has became prosperous. Among lots of excellent film directors, Kim Ki-yeom that was famous for different style and non-mainstream definitely is the most outstanding, attractive and controversial one. He has not graduated from Film College, and only finished primary education, but he has talent in arts and completed his every work very quickly in about several months, even several days, so that he has been called film quick worker. However, the very beautiful film pictures, extreme personality and unexpected plots combined with the deep thinking of Korean history, human beings life and humanistic, especially the living conditions of the people living in the edge of society made him very popular in the different world's film exhibitions. In 2004, he won the best director award in Berlin and Venice film festivals and became the most remarkable Korean film director in this century.This thesis has made a systematic and deep research on Kim Ki-yeom's film. From the point of Kim his film text material, the author intend to re-explained the features of Kim his film content from the standpoint of religion and ethics, to discuss the film formative social background combined with the history of Korea, national character of Korean, and the situation of Korean modern society, to analyze his unusual, individual but attractive film language and film aesthetics, moreover ,at the last part of this thesis, the author try to do some researches on his deep motivation ,combined with his early life experiences ,from the angle of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic ideas.We made no doubt of Kim Ki-yeom's film talent and his rich imagination. But, his past obvious, extreme expressions made him so unpopular and his films very inconceivable among the masses. Moreover, this gap would still exist for a long time. However, Jin's strong desire to communicate with the mass people and his film style gradually become more gentle, mild and mature in recent years, these factors will shorten the distance between JIN and the mass people. We believe that more and more people will appreciate and favor his films in the future.
