From Bin Xin to Eileen Chang, great changes had taken in the images of mothers in Chinese modern female literature works. In analyzing the changes, based on Chinese women's low social status, we can see modern women intellectuals trying to capture the idea of "mother" as a female idea with strong feminine consciousness. Therefore, the attention to the mothers' destiny is the attention to female destiny. This thesis launches the analysis elaboration in four aspects:In the first part the history of Chinese traditional mother is addressed. "Mother" and "woman" in traditional Chinese culture are two separated meanings. "Women" only with the "mother" status have access to male-centered power system on the condition that they give up their own awareness and female characteristics which will result in a loss of gender age.The next part: "May 4th" female writers eulogized collectively "saintly mother" which reflected the budding feminist consciousness. However, the women's feminist awareness was so weak as a baby. Corresponding to this, the mother images in the female works of this stage , showed warm, loving, holy, omnipotent features, with a clearly trace of traditional mothers. The third part: With the increase of feminine consciousness, the women in this period started to pay attention to mothers' misery: the social bitter and the personal suffering, on which some new images of mother were based those were more close to reality than before. Because of the ideological defection from the party line and other reasons, the works couldn't reach a desired condition. The final part: The appearance of Eileen Chang marks great progress on feminine consciousness. Transcending the physical stage and external social level, Eileen Chang Zhang firmly repudiated feminine spiritual evils. Although only deconstruction without construction, no doubt her exploration of humanity pointed to a probability of a real understanding and a real reconstruction.
