To learn English well needs good language environment. The environment of English is considered as a FLLE (foreign language learning environment) in China, in which the learners are in lack of authentic interaction in their daily life. Furthermore, because of the problems in the class instruction, the Chinese learners have low communicative proficiency. The present teaching practice has failed to meet the current Chinese job market demands and also that of the students. However, with the development of globalization of economy and the advancement of information technology, English is also internationalized. Thereby the Chinese students can get themselves immersed in ALEs (accessible language environments), which refer to the LEs (language environments) that can be accessed by most common English learners. This thesis is doing an investigation on whether ALEs promote learners' language proficiency effectively.By using the Pearson correlation coefficient analysis and T-test to analyze the results obtained in the quantitative study and also based on the further evidence from the qualitative study, this thesis shows that the ALE-based language learning promotes language proficiency, which is reflected not only in the achievement in exams but also the cultural knowledge and oral English competence. This shows that the ALE-based language learning can solve some problems which exist in the current teaching practice, and it is an important complement to the classroom instruction. In the end, the thesis lists some limitations in this study, so further research needs to be carried out.The present study can reveal the characteristics of ALE-based learning, prove empirically that ALE-based learning can promote learners' language proficiency effectively and analyze the underlying reasons why it can promote language acquisition theoretically. Thereby it provides some suggestions to make good use of the ALEs to facilitate language acquisition from the point of environment view, with the hope that more college students will realize the importance and use ALEs enthusiastically. In doing so, it helps to promote the English teaching and learning to meet the needs of the learners and the society.
