Study On Historical And Cultural Value Of Citrus In China

Citrus is one of the fruit trees with the largest planting acre in southern China and occupies the most significant economic status. China is the hometown of Citrus. Our ancestors began to cultivate Citrus in the early five-thousand-years ago at the Neolithic Age. So far, China has had the largest planting area of Citrus in the world and the Citrus fruit production and scientific research also has been the hot of the fruit circles. However, very few people has systematically studied on historical and cultural value of Citrus.On the foundation of collecting data from the angle of history and culture, this study discussed the history of citriculture and the development course of Citrus culture, analyzed the expression form of material culture and spiritual culture of Citrus, analyzed industrialization of modern Citrus culture. The necessity of Citrus culture of protection and inheritance was proposed, and the methods were given. The main results were as follows:1. The concept of "Citrus People" was put forward and defined. "Citrus People" refers to people who have maken contributions to the development of Citrus industry, including working on Citrus planting, processing, propagating culture and proceeding scientific research.2. The study defined the culture of Citrus. In this conception, Citrus was the carrier. It was the sum of material wealth and spiritual wealth, which was an outcome of combining the carrier with people. The culture of Citrus has taken on the characteristics of diversification, such as edibility, medication, cumulativeness, symbolism, regionalization, intemationality, etc.3. The history of citriculture was explored based on the developing history of Citrus. With chronological order, the origin, the citriculture, the variety type, the distribution in historical period and the medical history were explained in details; Taken history as guideline, the manifestation in beginning development of the culture of Citrus, external communication of the culture of Citrus in historical period were explored. Finally it was concluded that the culture of Citrus had an important position in every historical period. 4. By the interpretation of Citrus's edibility, medication, utilization and other aspects, the usefulness embodied the versatility of the material value of the Citrus culture. People's acceptance of Citrus was improved that would promote the development of Citrus industry integration.5. Through classified the various historical period of Citrus literary performance, we could see that the literary culture of Citrus presented a blossom situation. The various form of Citrus's literary played an extremely important role in the development of the Citrus culture.6. Defined and explained the Citrus industry and industrialization, explained that Citrus industrialization was the extension of Citrus material cultural and spiritual cultural value, enriched the meaning of cultural value of Citrus.7. In the study, some opinions and suggestions about how to protect and heritage the Citrus culture were put forward. These were the historical records data collection, the establishment of Citrus cultural resource database, the establishment of Citrus museum, the celebration of all kinds of Citrus Festival.
