In the 20 th of America, many African authoresses made soulful description of their mothers, who not only beared the desolation due to their dark skin, but also endured the oppression of male Chauvinism, even exluded from the mainstream culture. These mothers were ternarily tracked by sex, race and culture. However, they toughly faced with mothery flexile character, living wisdom and free soul. The Negro literature was concentraded flourishing in the 20th century. The article chooses this era as the background and makes a collection of mothers'image in terms of time. The first chapter discripts the traditional and conservative mothers from the beginning of 20th century to the twenties/thrities.The second chapter is for struggling women warriors, who not bend to the mainstream and sing the song of striving. The third chapter probes into the absence of mothers'role in Walker's novel and finds that she and other authoresses reach the same goal by different routes. Then is about the diversification of motherhood in the works of Morrison.Because she has less politics but more culture, the image of mother possesses archetypal sense. Thus, by the image of mother, the paper discusses the writing history of Negro authoresses.Even though this history is not as long as classicla literature, they hold the "bird in the hand" as Morrison said, sing daringly and achieve one legend of flying.
