Objective: To investigate the hassles stress level of the students in higher vocational technical colleges and its characters, to explore the relation between the hassles stress and mood disorder of the students in higher vocational technical college.Methods: 453 students aged 16 to 22 year old ( 278 was boys and 175 was girls) from Changsha Aeronautical Vocational Technological College were administed by the General Social and Academic Hassles Scale(SHS), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS), and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) to valuate the level of their hassels stress,anxiety,and depression respectively.Results:1. Hassels stress charactersHassels stress characters were divided into three aspects including the academic stress, the social stress and the general stress. The results of analysis were list as following.(1) The academic stress: students suffered from various academic stress at the following percentage, which was 64.8% of stressors from study, 60.5% from by their marks, 54.1% from the contents of courses, 52.1% from the higher standard, 51.8% from the pressure of times, 48.2% from the time distribution, 47.6% from the workload, 45.8% from the academic limitation, 37.1% from the tests and evaluation, and 27.9% from the speech in class.(2) The social stress: studerts suffered from various social stress at the following percentage, which was 65.5% of social stressors from job prospects; 64.5% from the health and welfare of a person in love; 56.9% from the friendship; 56.3% from the ability of self-expression; 55.8% from the life quality; 49.9% from the communication with family; 49.4% from the expense for living; 46.1% from the relationship between girlfriends or boyfriends; 45.9% from the behaviors of friends, and 36.7% is due to personal figures.(3) The general stress: students suffered from various general stress at the following percentage, which was 79.6% of general stressors due to parents' expectation; 54.5% was from the duty to family; 40.0% from the noise; 38.1% from the missing for time limit and date; 34.9% from the necessary expense; 34.7% from the time requests others give to me;34.5% from the transportation; 27.7% from the distraction for family; 27.6% from the house-hold trifle, and 23.5% from is due to the part-time job.There is significant difference on hassles stress among different grades and sexes. The level of social, and general perception stresses were decreasing with the aging; among the students in higher vocational technical college, the hassels stress level was the highest in the first year, and the level of stress was lower in the second year, and then got the bottom in the senior year. There was no significant difference in various majors.2. The states of anxiety and depression. Among the tested group, 10.8% of students had clinical significant symptoms of depression (11.15% for boys, 10.29% for girls). 9.78% of the students in Grade One, 13.8% in Grade Two, and 5.56% in grade three. 11.3% of them major in Arts, and 10.8% major in Science.16.1% of the students had clinical significant symptoms of anxiety, 13.8% of them for boys, 16% for girls. There are 15.56% of students with anxiety in Grade one, 18.4% in Grade two, 9.26% in Grade three. 13.62% are the Arts students, and 17.92% are in the Science. There was no significant difference in SDS and SAS by gender, grade and major. 3. The relationship between hassles stress and mood disorders: there was positive significant correlation between hassles stress and anxiety and depression. The content of course, the distraction for family, and personal appearance were the predicting factors of depression. The distraction for family, transportation, and house-hold truffles were the predicting factors of anxiety.Conclusion: 1.The hassles stress and mood disorders exist generally in the students of higher vocational technical college.2. The extent of hassles stress of the students is significant possitive relation to the level of anxiety and depression.3. The detailed hassles stress can predict anxiety and depression mood of the students in higher vocational technical college. The content of courses, the distraction for family, and personal appearance were the predicting factors of depression. The distraction for family, transportation, and house-hold truffles were the predicting factors of anxiety.
