The works of Flaubert concluede Madame Bovery, Sentimental Education, Salammbo, The temptation of saint Anthony, Three Story, Letters, Bouvard and Pécuchet, and so on. Generally speaking, he is believed to be a realism writer, but his writing style has showed staged and various traits. His earlier novels display the characteristic realism, of course conluding the style of romanticism .Such as the earlier works, Madame Bovery and so on. And the later ones show the trait of naturalism and modernism, such as Bouvard and Pécuchet. In addition, the style is not singular in the same work.Bouvard and Pécuchet, as the last novel in the writer's life, has been neglected since it is created. As a fact, it is a wonderful work in the content and style. It has showed many new features comparing to the former novels of the writer. It has showed the traits of naturalism and modernism. If we compare it to Madame Bovery, we can find the obvious change in the style of his works. The change is from realism to naturalism and modernism. And the change is accomplished in the novel at last.So we must understand its important status in the change of the writer's style carefully. The change has relation to social environments and the writer's home environment. For example, he was infulenced by the atmosphere of romanticism and realism. Afterwards, he was also infulenced by the scientism. Of course, it has relation to his ideas and his particular viewpoint of art. And the change of Flaubert also brings big influences to the later writers, especially the modernism writers.
