CHUANG TZU's Life Conciousness

Chuang Tzu's life conciousness is a much heated issue debated in today's Chuang Tzu's study. This is closely related to the man's existence, development and his relationship with the ecological environment, which has become a more and more critical theory in today's China. In order to understand the content of Chuang Tzu's life consciousness, and get the enlightenment of finding the practical solutions from it, this paper classifies and analyzes Chuang Tzu's life conciousness. Using the method of historical contrast and analysis, the writer studies Chuang Tzu's view of nature (ontology), world view and epistemology, clarifies the fundamental content of Chuang Tzu's life consciousness, and uses the reasonable elements in Chuang Tzu's life conciousness to analyze man's existence and the problem of ecological harmony.This thesis contains four parts.In the first part, Tao is discussed in details. Tao is the most valuable theoretical element in Chinese Philosophy. Chuang Tzu observes life based on Tao. Life is a natural phenomenon. In Chuang Tzu's view, all the living things come from one shapeless Tao. Tao is the origin and base of life. The essence of life is to unite with Tao. Thus, life can be eternal.In the second part, the writer discusses Chuang Tzu's puzzle of man"s existence. Tao is the origin of life, while Qi determines the development and death of life. Human beings are one part of living things. Life comes from Tao and is determined by Qi. In Chuang Tzu's view, the misfortunes of people come from the diseases, poverty, social dangers, spiritual problems and the worries of death.In the third part, the study of Chuang Tzu's Tao is carefully made. The core of Chuang Tzu's philosophy is to put Tao into practical research for every single person. He assures the special value of each person. He points out that people should unload the burden from their flesh bodies and pay more attention to their spiritual training. In the fourth part, the writer discusses the historical and present meaning of Chuang Tzu's philosophy. People should seek the value of life in Tao's way. From the discussion of the thesis, it is very clear that Chuang Tzu's Tao can benefit Today's people. Furthermore, Chuang Tzu's Tao can be used to solve the problems that appear in dealing with the relationship between human beings and the nature, between people and society, between physical and mental.
