| The relative importance of individual difference variables and situational factors in explaining prejudice was the core theme of the theoretical analysis of prejudice. In this research, individual difference variable referred to Social Dominance Orientation, situational factor referred to social status and the threat to social status, the objects of prejudice were the workers who were farmers. Through examining the relation between SDO and its influential factors, the understanding of SDO and the mechanism of prejudice were deepened. There're three types hypothesis for the relation among situational factors, individual difference variables and prejudice, that is, the personality model, the moderation model and the mediation model. To exam these models, a prejudice scale was developed. It had good reliability and validity. In study 2, the scale investment was used to exam the relationship among social status, SDO and prejudice. According to Pratto, the career could be divided into two types, the students who major in business management had higher social status than those who major in social work. The first year and third year students were included. It showed that the relationship among them varied in two grades. In grade one, the result supported the personality model partly. In grade three, the interaction effect between social status and SDO was significant, so the moderation model was valid. With the process of socialization, social status should pose more influence on the relation of SDO and prejudice. In study 3, the experiment was used to exam the relationship among SDO, the threat to the social status and prejudice. The stimulus for the experimental group was the threat to the social status. IAT was used to measure the implicit prejudice. It showed that according to explicit prejudice, the interaction effect of SDO and prejudice was significant. It suggested that the threat moderated the relationship between SDO and prejudice. According to implicit prejudice, whether under high threat or low one, the prediction power of SDO to prejudice was stable. It supported the personality model. Besides, the relation between explicit and implicit prejudice was increased by threat, and implicit prejudice was increased under threat. In the end, the limitation of the present research were discussed from the theoretical perspective, and the future directions was discussed as well. |
