| Quine challenges the analytic-synthetic distinction-together with an allied'dogma', reductionism-in a classic paper called'Two Dogmas of Empiricism'and he broke the traditional difference between the analytical propositions and the synthetical propositions. His views have deeply influenced the development of modern philosophy. His theories have been a milestone in the history of philosophy, especially analytical philosophy. But, for all its a priori reasonableness, a boundary between analytic and synthetic statements has not been drawn. This paper holds that although we have not drawn a boundary between them; the existence of analytic and synthetic propositions is a fact. We elucidate the analytic proposition not only by the ways of validation but also the cause of origin to know the difference between analytic proposition and synthetic proposition better. |
