Based on the concept, structure, assessment scales and the current research situation about resiliency, this study revised foreign Resilience Scale for Adults in the light of our cultural background and made a preliminary investigation into Chinese college students' resiliency. With the help of Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List and Symptom checklist (SCL-90), the relationships among resiliency, life event stress and mental health were explored among students from colleges of arts and colleges of science. SPSS 11.5 and AMOS 5.0 were adopted to analyze the data, and exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, analysis of reliability and validity, correlation analysis and analysis of multiple linear regression and so on were conducted. The main findings were as follows:1. The reliability and validity of the revised Resilience Scale for college students had met the requirements of Surveying.2. Overall, college students' resiliency was much high, but there was still a certain percentage of students with low resiliency.3. Demographically, the college students differed remarkably in resiliency in multiple dimensions. The main differences were as follows:on personal competence, the male students were significantly better than female students; on social support, female college students were significantly better than male college students, freshmen were significantly better than sophomore students; on social communicative competence, the only children were stronger than the non-only-children; on personal traits and family coherence, different college students did not show significant difference.4. Resiliency, life event stress and mental health were closely related. Life event stress was in significant negative correlation with resiliency; life event stress was in significant positive correlation with psychological symptoms and resiliency was in significant negative correlation with psychological symptoms.5. Resiliency had an impact on life event stress and mental health, and it played an intermediary role in the relationship between life event stress and mental health. Based on the study above, two recommendations were put forward to improve the college students'resiliency and enhance their mental health:First, the students'inherent protective factor should be purposefully improved by[0] means of psychological counseling.Second, family and social support networks should be strongly developed to purposefully improve the students'external protective factor.
