Research On Campus Catchwords

In recent years, the campus catchwords have gradually gained the concerns of the scholars. In a general view of the academic trend on campus catchword, it can be summarized that the scrutinized researches of the scholars focus on the nature, characteristic, origin, type of the catchword, as well as the way it came into being; the reason it became popular; the cultural psychology it reflect and the attitude toward it, but few has been done in the field of its concrete distribution and social research on its usage. The academic fruits have been harvest mostly in the field of periodicals and journals in stead of M.A thesis and doctoral dissertation. It is therefore can be resulted that the research on the campus catchword is still open to researches that are deeper and more systematic.Aiming at the blank left in the research of campus catchword, this thesis attempts to give a broader view, by adopting parole community, language variant theory, and re-interpret the phenomenon of the campus catchword from the perspective of subculture. As an element involved in the research, the author has a better access to the research base, the college campus, to sample the date of parole examples.Abundant data on the popular campus catchword were collected in this research. First, an analysis on the constructual morphology and category of the date of collected parole is done to help to have a general impression of the internal constitution of campus catchword. Second, a combination research of questionnaire and interview is given to have a better understanding of the colleague students'study and daily life as long as their cognitive situation on the campus catchword by analyzing the elements of gender, age, major, locality and communication that influence and condition the concrete distribution and social research on its usage of the campus catchword. Last, the thesis goes further to the discussion of the insight the campus catchword brings to the education and the regulation of the campus language on the basis of the social culture which leads to the analysis of the modern college students'psychology and their confusion.The methodology the thesis adopted in this research mainly relies on the social research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, statistics, conclusion and deduction.
