The memory of history and the posture of foreseeing future what Chinese intellectuals and Russian intellectuals hold in the transformation period are discussed by comparing Greening Tree written by Chinese author Xianliang Zhang with Hopeless Escape written by Russian author Y. Poliakov. China and Russia shared similar history in social development. But there were distinct traditions of intellectuals in two countries. Because of that, adding the different personal experience, Xianliang Zhang and Y. Poliakov represent distinct way of recalling history, based on which they find different solution of redemption.
