Willa Cather,whose reputation largely rests on her novels about immigrants on Nebraska prairie and the American Southwest,is one of the most famous American female novelists in the first half of the 20th century.My Antonia is one of those frontier novels,which has been interpreted from the romantic,feminist perspectitives etc.This thesis attempts to disclose the significance of studying My Antonia from the perspective of ecocriticismAfter analyzing the major characters' ecoconsciousness and natural elements, especially Antonia's process of self-fulfillment by adopting ecocentrism and ecofeminism,the thesis comes to its conclusion:Willa Cather in My Antonia depicts an ecological world in Nebraska prairie and reveals a "green" way of life.To appreciate the novel from an ecocritieal perspective can enhance our appreciation and awareness of ecological culture in 21st century as well as the novel and Willa Cather herself.
