Study On Prince Yun Xiang

Although Yong Zheng Period which connected Kang Xi period and Qian Long period only had lasted for thirteen years, it had an important position in the history of Qing Dynasty. Emperor Yong Zheng ,during his reign ,had purged officials, cleared and asked officials to pay back the deficits, and implemented policies ,which had great significances, such as"sharing man taxation Into fields ",and"returning meltage fees to the public coffers", that all had laid a foundation for the continuation of the"prosperous reigns Kang Xi and Qian Long". Yun Xiang is the son of Emperor Kang Xi, the younger brother of Emperor Yong Zheng. He was the most trusted and relied minister in the former and medium-term of Yong Zheng period and the first man who had got a hereditary throne for the nobility title of prince. Yun Xiang who was very talented and good at financial management had in charged the Ministry of Revenue and the three warehouses of that department for a long-term; Yun Xiang was once the chief minister of water resources and land managing, he had done his best to water resources and had reclaimed about seven thousand hectares of paddy field in Zhi Li area. He also had taken charge of affairs of Hui Kao Fu, commanded garrison army of Yuan Ming Yuan and maken preparations for military affairs, he had laid a certain foundation for Emperor Yong Zheng's administrative and military achievements.Yun Xiang had some characteristics in conducting himself and governing such as did not panic about glories, respectful and careful and tolerant and benevolent.Yun Xiang had always been kept in high favor during Yong Zheng period; he not only had impacted the political situation of Yong Zheng but also the relatively caustic and hot tempered Emperor Yong Zheng himself. A deep study on this historical figure with such an political status will help us to get a good understanding of the political changes and direction of Yong Zheng period apparently.This paper, based on Man-Han memorials in Emperor Kang Xi and Yong Zheng period and the official records, organized the main deeds of Yun Xiang, and focused on the analysis of his major political activities such as financial management and flood control that mentioned above, and then revealed Yun Xiang's contributions and impacts to Emperor Yong Zheng and his reign. This paper tried best to get a relatively completely and systemic understanding of Yun Xiang, in turn to get a more in-depth understanding of Emperor Yong Zheng and the politics of his period .
