William Faulkner(William Falkner)was one of the 20th century's most creative novelists of the experiment. On the theoretical basis, this article attempted to emphasize new narratology. In the light of contemporary Faulkner's research and the narrative research achievement, from the perspective of narrative theory of understanding, and from the narrative space and time, narrative techniques and characteristics, narrative language and rhythm, this article focused on the analysis of the narrative art of Faulkner's novels, therefore fully demonstrated the narrative characteristics of Faulkner's novels and artistic value.Faulkner's novels used the stream of consciousness technique and disorder of time in a creative way. In the contrast of multi-perspective narrations and multi-plot clues, this novel formed a unique view of space and time, so as to establish a specific historical and cultural context.In"Sound and the Fury"and"Absalom, Absalom!"such kind of novels, Faulkner has provided several different angles of view for the reader to lend an attentive ear to narrators' description. This kind of open style structure has provided one brand-new reading way to the reader, and created the novel the function of multi-price characteristic. Faulkner also set regular suspense to postpone and suppress the detailed information of occurred events. The existence of the novels'breakpoints not only affect the interpretation of the event from the reader, but also affect the narrator of the story, and resulted in unreliability of the narration. However, through the careful analysis of text narration and the ethics point of view, the reader still might acquire author intention. Meanwhile, with the stream of consciousness, multi-perspective narrations, replacement and contraposition, and multi-plot clues and so on, Faulkner's novels turned to be fantastical, undistinguishable and labyrinth.Faulkner's artistic originality is also seen in his narrative discourse and rhythm. The complication and luxuriance of the language, the profound and poetic meaning, the careful deployment of narrative speed, frequency, intensity, all performance was special inventive mind for its novel art.
