Impacts On American Youth In 1970s From Coming Down Of Hippies

The Hippies Movement in 1960s has been attracting many historains' and politician's attention for its unique features. Hippies Movement, together with Vietnam War, Black Movement, Students' Rebellion, Women Movement, constructs a special social scene in American culture. Many Chinese and foreign scholars have made great efforts in collecting, assembling, analyzing information of this subject from 1970s and many of them studied the causes of Hippies Movement from politics, economy, society, education, cultural critic and philosophy. They have achieved plentiful and substantial fruits including some history literatures, personal recollections, biographies and theoretical analysises. However, the study on this movement's coming down and American youth value's change after that is still not perfect,especially the research on the change of youth values from Hippies Coming Down aspect still needs more hardworking. Many experts and scholars stated that Hippies was a cultural rebellion more than a political issue. It can be described as the focus reflection of different classes' confronting and conflicts in the process of social and cultural transmission after WWII. But with its coming down in 1970s, what happened in American youth values? How did Hippies' Coming Down affect their values? Few fruits has been collected by now. For this reason, the paper is to analyze American youth value's change after Hippies' coming down, causes of change, hindering impacts to American politics, economy and culture from its causes of coming down. To explore the causes of Hippies' coming down systemically and scientifically is meaningful in academic, helpful in being aware of modern American society and grasping the direction of American culture.The paper is to analyze the issue in three parts. In the first part, which is introduction part, the paper is to introduce the fruitful achievements of Chinese and foreign scholars. It states that this paper will study Hippies from its causes and impacts of its coming down. The second part is the body made up of four chapters. In the first chapter, it is to analyze the coming down of Hippies and its causes: deficiency of Hippies culture, government's effort, and economic depression. In the second chapter, it is to analyze the change in American youths value in 1970s after Hippies' coming down. It includes dilemma of Homosexual Movement, continuances of Hippies clothing style, flooding of drug abuse, development of Rock, development of literature, springing up of multiculturalism. The third chapter is to analyze the causes of change from economic recession, government's regulation and rerising of neoconservative ideology in 1970s. The fourth chapter is to analyze the impacts to American politics, economy and culture after the change of American youth's value. The third part is conclusion which analyzes that the coming down of hippies reflects the thinking and exploring of American youth. Hippies movement came down because of its limits, hippies had to restate themselves in the society and tried to get their social recognition from the regress of values.
