| Affective education is a concept opposite to intellectual education and cognitive education. It is a part of education process, which will be considered broadly as aspects of emotion, feeling, mood, or attitude. Linguistic scholars have researched and confirmed that cognition and emotion depend on each other. It is also proved that affect plays an important role in promoting people's cognition in the psychology field. And the positive affect such as interest, confidence, etc. has a direct or indirect influence on English learning. However, the phenomenon of emphasis on cognition, ignorance of affect exists broadly in the college English teaching. Based on the theories related affect and affective education, the thesis explores the role of affective education in college English teaching. It also probes into the strategies on how to carry out affective education in college English teaching. The study is of great significance for cultivating students' positive affect and improving college English teaching efficiency.In the light of the theories of educational psychology, SLA (Second Language Acquisition), linguistics, neurobiology, and so forth, the author discusses the definition of affect and affective education, the types of affect, the role of positive affect, the affective education theories and makes a theoretical and empirical research into some typical affective factors such as interest, confidence and anxiety in order to probe into the effectiveness of affective education in college English teaching. It shows that affective education has a great influence on students' cognitive development and students' positive affect cultivation, and improves college English teaching efficiency. And the research results indicate that affective education is beneficial to improving the interest of English learning, enhancing the confidence of English learning, and relieving the anxiety of English learning. It is significant for students to form positive affect, harmonize the relationship between students and teachers, and make sure that teaching activities can work successfully. Finally, the author puts forward some useful affective education strategies (how to keep the harmonious relationship between students and teachers; how to excavate the affective factors of teaching materials; how to make affect work more powerful in the process of teaching, etc.) to guide college English teaching on the basis of the research results.The study aims to draw more educationists to pay attention to affect, to promote affective education, to help students form positive affect, and to improve college English teaching efficiency. |
