New Concept Of Children's Toy Design Considering The Benefits Of Play

Children are the future. The whole world has to keep its fast way to maintain its order in the 21st century, although it is confronted with shortage of natural resources. Therefore, technology and creation, which is dependent on education, is playing more significant role than anytime in the history. In practice, however, children's living is being encroached gradually. For example, it is undeniable that the burden of study has dulled children's creation and talent. The goal of this paper, therefore, is conducted with this anxiety to find a balance for this conflict.First of all, the relationship between children and play is evaluated. Based on literature review and other references, the physiological and behavioral characters of children are concluded. Analyze reveals that study burden runs in the opposite of children's nature. Moreover, the theories of play are concluded in four categories. Specially, play was classified according to children's physiological and psychological character, which led to the conclusion of the relationship of children and play, that is, play is exactly the life and work of children.Second, the benefits of play, in which internal and external values are included, is abstracted from the theory of play. Actually, it is because of the value of play that children should never be detached from play. Then, the functions of play on the growing up of children are explained, with the conclusion that play is, and will be, significant on the education of children.Third, this paper focuses on the relationship between play and toys. The current situation of toys industry in China and in the world is discussed briefly, followed by the classification of children's toys. It is concluded that toys are originated from play and play are the foundation of toys. Hence, play is functionally consistent with toys, which are implementation of the benefits of play on children.Finally, industrial design is applied in the design of children's toys. Topics include the design procedure, the design element and the materials. Based on analyses hereinbefore, it is recommended that considerations should be given in the aspect of design to achieve a balance.
