| In the middle of 1930s, A Series of Chinese New Literature (1917-1927) edited by Zhao Jiabi was published. It is a collection of theories and articles in the first ten-year stage of Chinese New Literature Movement, co-edited by some famous modernist writers such as Luxun, Maodun and so on. It is a classical document of modern Chinese literature as well. As far as Chinese modern literature is concerned, A Series of Chinese New Literature (1917-1927) is not only a reorganization and generalization of those creators' involvement in the new literature, but also an academic practice for the legal existence of the new literature. Moreover, it is a general textual exposure of the modern characteristics of Chinese literature. This paper attempts to look back upon its particular historical and academic context, and further explore its unique value on literary thoughts, modernism and historical significance.This paper is divided into five parts:Introduction briefly introduces A Series of Chinese New Literature (1917-1927), looks back upon related researches in the academic world, and points out its research purpose and main contents.Chapter one introduces the person Zhao Jiabi and the detailed process of the "series", including reasons of edition, process of edition and its initial influence at that time.Chapter two discusses the literary thoughts contained in A Series of Chinese New Literature (1917-1927). It is the key part of this paper, and divided into two sections: one analyzes its structure, the other is about its main contents, including introduction and detailed analysis according to novels, poems, dramas, essays, constructive theories and debates, and historical documents etc.Chapter three discourses on detailed embodiments under modernist enlightenment and aesthetic appreciation, and its own literary value and neglects as well.Conclusion is based on previous discussion, generalizes the influence of A Series of Chinese New Literature (1917-1927) upon late generations, and their inheriting and carrying forward of this particular literary research system, stresses on its characteristics and its classic significance. |
