The Study Of Shengxun In Zheng Xuan's Annotation On Confucian Classics

Shengxun,one of the early methods of exegesis in ancient China, refers to explaining a word with homophones.The Confucian classics master of the Eastern Han Dynasty-Zhengxuan chose Yixun as his main way of exegesis when he managed to annotate the Confucian classics,simultaneously,he frequently applied Shengxun to explain the system of ancient ceremony and the words of the things and their names, so it made the readers know what and why.His initiated exegesis principle of inquiring into the meaning of words according to thire phone and his wide application of Shengxun tO delveinto the derivation of a word and to connect with the words of the same origin are influential in the history of exegesis and etymology.Therefore,it is theoretically important and academically significant to study Zhengxuan's Shengxun from the linguistic perspective.This thesis does a systemic analysis of Zheng's 1534 examples of Shengxun in his annotation on Confucian classics and the following are the main contents:Chapterâ… includes the introduction of the Zhengxuan's annotation on Confucian classics,literature review of past research and the object,task and significance of this study.Chapterâ…¡takes a bird-eye's view on the shengxun in Zhengxuan's annotation and concentrates on the status and function of Shengxun in his works;In addition,it makes a systematic classification of the forms of exegesis.Chapterâ…¢testifies the phonetic relationship between the annotating and annotated words in shengxun of Zhengxuan's annotation based on the previous achievement of the far-ancient phonetic system,summarizes the classification of his Shengxun and analyzes the characteristics of the transition of initial and final.Chapterâ…£compiles the words of the same orgin in Zhengxuan's annotation on Confucian classics which were testified,and further substantiates 24 groups of cognates which were taken as believable by us from phonetically and semantically aspects,categorizes them according to their sources of semanteme.Chapterâ…¤summarizes the contribution of shengxun in Zhengxuan's annotation on Confucian classics to exegesis and etymology,and analyzes the negligence in his shengxun.
