Chinese modern pottery rose and developed in the 1980s, but now, only 30 years later, Chinese ceramic art can keep pace with that of the West.We cannot say that we have achieved a lot, but at least we can say Chinese ceramic art is letting a hundred flowers bloom.Among the reasons for this, the unique artistic charm of ceramic art,of course, can not be off the relationship, more importantly, artists' high enthusiasm and persistent pietygive the form of life to soil; ceramic artists' surpassing on the practical and aesthetic relations give modern ceramic art many spiritual connotations and thinking of the language which have got beyond the aesthetic category.It is these art theorist who stand beyond the technical level and the discussion based on the theory of modern art criticism views that directly promote the development of modern ceramics.The relationship between modern and traditional ceramic pottery is the topic about which theorists and practitioners offer a high degree of concern and heated discussion.How modern pottery developalso lead to great interest of artists.From the modeling and aesthetic views this paper compare and study traditional and modern ceramic pottery and then find the similarities and differences between the two: traditional and modern ceramic pottery are in the form of the creator, buy the purpose is different: on traditional ceramics, the usage of artifacts is the standard of measurement while on modern ceramics,the volition are the main point which thrust into the author's personal will. Both are aesthetic form, traditional ceramics reflects the era of human values and harmony aesthetic standards, so there are forms of convergence while modern ceramic art reflects the artist's individual personality and aesthetic charm, so the style is of diversity and with more features of difference . The constant development and renovation of materials, process, technology mainly reflect social progress in ceramic art. Therefore, the main difference between modern and traditional ceramic art pottery is that its principle changed from practical aesthetic in the past to the purely aesthetic needs and emotional expression now. Modern pottery just expand the traditional ceramic art aesthetic areas and develop the traditional ceramic art skills,so the two is not diametrically opposite. This is the internal spiritual motive power and external material basis of the healthy development of modern pottery .
