Xu Kun is one of the writers with distinctive characteristics. At the beginning of her presence on the literary stage, she made fun of modern scholars through the way of sexual inversion and removed the blazing crowns off their heads, displaying their real life and spiritual outlook. In the middle of the 1990s, she had her creation shifted to urban women, with a view to presenting the self-consciousness and spiritual pursuit of modern female intellects. Whether her concern on the intellects and urban women or her attempt in narrative art, we could discern distinct post-modern features from her works. This paper tries to explore her works as a whole from a perspective of post-modern features. In the introduction of the thesis, the author chiefly generalizes and cites the western post-modernism thoughts and their influence and impact on China's society, especially its literary arts. Chapter One deals with the post-modern features of Xu Kun's works relating to intellects theme from the following three aspects: the retrospect and deconstruction, the pains out of thoughts' disintegration and maze of the thoughts' breakout and construction; Chapter Two begins with the theoretical fundamentals and then illustrates the post-modern features of Xu Kun's works on women from the subversion of "phallocentrism" and struggling for voice right to the history of maternal family; the last chapter, on the basis of narrative aesthetics, analyzes the post-modernism of Xu Kun's novels. this chapter main breakthrough point is the utilization of narrative techniques: pastiche, irony, parody. It is doubtless that Xu Kun's works bear clear post-modern consciousness; however, this sort of post-modern consciousness is far from thorough "westernization", but of the Chinese indigenous flavor. Therefore, we should not deny or ignore her longing for the literary ideas and ideological reconstruction when tasting or looking into her works.
