The Judging Criterion Of 《The Critical Review》

In China' s contemporary academic study,Critical Review School, which was defined as a conservative and backward one,has been attached great importance by scholars,gradually.They uphold Chinese traditional culture(literature) and object new culture(literature movement),which make them on the academic edge all the time.However,with the diversity of academic thought and a more fair and objective academic research, some scholars has changed their attitudes and opinions on the Critical Review SchoolIn what respects are their criticisms on advocators of New Culture Movement worth thinking deeply? What are their research values in cultural debate as a cultural conservatism? What features do they have on the conception of Chinese traditional literature,especially of poetry creation? In terms of the above three aspects,this thesis will discuss the literature conception of the Critical Review School in detail,aiming to explore its original ideas hided in the history.Firstly,the debates between Critical Review School and advocators of New Culture Movement are the key to the establishment of Critical Review School,who has different opinions and views on the studying attitude of advocators of New Culture Movement,the conception and method of literature creation.Meanwhile,as the antithesis to New Literature Movement,Critical Review School can find out some problems clearly brought about by New Culture Movement in the cultural development.Without considering their emotional arguments,the debates from the two schools are actually mutual complementary and inter-improved.Secondly,Critical Review School and advocators of New Culture Movement have shared the same cultural background.At an early stage, they all have accepted Confucian culture education on behalf of Chinese traditional Culture and then western culture education abroad,but they chose two totally different ways,which resulted not from their dependence on traditional culture mentally,but the succeeding relationship of their leaders.The scholars of Critical Review School held out consciously the "New.Humanism" represented by Babbitt, permitting their academic thoughts to flow on the norms of world culture conservatism.They have accepted and absorbed Babbitt' s views in their own ways,of which Mei Guangdi and Wumi are most representative.Thirdly,their debates on literature focus on poetics.Critical Review School claims that classical Chinese poetry should be preserved and modern development should be manifested in content,i.e."New materials into old rhyme" held by Wumi.Most of their views on poem are on the basis of this idea and only a little different because of different literature cultivation.Therefore,a strong individual characteristic is showed not only in evaluation on poetics conception from advocators of New Culture Movement,but in criticisms on Chinese traditional poetry.
