| Paradise is Toni Morrison's first novel after her receiving Nobel Prize for literature and it is increasingly commented by critics since its publication in 1998.This paper attempts to analyze the narrative strategies of Toni Morrison's Paradise in the light of Gernard Genette's narrative theory. It includes five chapters. Chapter one briefly introduces the author, the novel, literature review and the significance of this paper. Chapter two gives a brief introduction to the literary theory applied in this paper. Chapter three analyzes the non-chronological narrative time, such as time order, time duration and time frequency and the effects of these devices are also illustrated. Chapter four analyzes the variable narrative discourses, such as direct narrated discourse, indirect narrated discourse and dramatic narrated discourse and also the emphasis is laid on its unique effects of these narrative strategies. Chapter five is the conclusion. |
