Shanghai as the most cosmopolitan city of China and an epitome of China's modern history ismoving toward international metropolis.With the development of traffic and travel,Shanghai was the western city can be thouched to Japanese.There was a boom of Chinese taste in Japan literary and artisry in the 1920's.Travel to China became the modern style of life,especially Shanghai.More and more Japanese writers travelled to Shanghai,and wrote travel sketches to display their view of Shanghai,leaded a boom of Shanghai literary in Japan.From March,1921,Japanese writer Akutagawa Ryunosuke made a special visit to Shanghai.The great disappointment at the undeveloped reality led to his misunderstanding,contempt and even discrimination against China.Yokomitsu Riichi,the leading figure of Japanese Neo-Sensationalism, traveled in Shanghai in 1928.After he returned home from his one-month stay in Shanghai,he wrote his novel Shanghai.Travel to Shanghai is on the great influence as a turing point in these two writers' life.In the first chapter,there is an analysis of the reasons for a boom of Shanghai in Japanese literature,and sort out the status of the current study,and the significance of this dissertation.The second chapter discusses the similarities and differences of the images of Shanghai between the two writers.Exotic image is the special performance of imaginaire social.These images don't reproduce the Chinese actuality on the real meaning but consturct a mode of Shanghai.Chapterâ…¢andâ…£analyzes images of Shanghai in Akutagawa Ryunosuke and Yokomitsu Riichi's view from both ideological and cultural.Japanese writers wrote the images of Shanghai as a center of the narrative in nature,they created imagination of the nation in works,not only highlights their own sense of superiority on the Eastern States,but also characteristics its own pattern anxiety in the modern world.Ideological impact on the writer's attitude,at the same time,some of the views of Akutagawa also drifted away from the mainstream discourse.Chinese literary classics and "The Chinese taste",as well as Western culture along with the process of modernization,impact on the authors' writing.The text is the continuous play of history,power and culture.
