In the past half century, translation study has benefited a lot from the research in linguistics. Modern theorists have broadened their research fields for new methods while dealing with translation. Among the various disciplines is stylistics which holds the view that style in translation should vary in accordance with variations of style, so it has been absorbed into the study of translation theories.Actually style is just like a window through which you can enjoy a fantastic view in the very heart of the writer. If translators are incompetent in recognizing and reproducing the style in original works, the translated version will fail to produce the same stylistic effect, so there is no doubt that style is of paramount importance in literary works and it is often described as mysterious and mystic. Moreover, when it comes to translation, it often arouses considerable controversy about the translatability of style and the successful recognition and reproduction of style are gradually transformed into a yardstick by which to measure the quality of translated literary works.This thesis is based on Liu Miqing'style theory and attempts to explore the stylistic transference of English version of Ah Q Zheng Zhuan written by Lu Xun. Liu's stylistic translation theory focuses first on the reorganization of the ST style and then the adaptability of the TT which is based on the analysis of the ST style and it is quite worthwhile for the author to explore the style translation with Liu's style theory and perceive how translators deal with language features and culture-specific words (formal markers and non-formal markers) and whether they succeed in reproducing the style of this story.This thesis falls into five parts. In introduction, the author gives a brief description of the literature review, the objective and the general fabric of this thesis. In chapter one, various definitions of style from western and eastern scholars are given so as to aid the understanding. This thesis focuses on Liu's style definition. In chapter two, the author mainly talks about the translatability of style and its methods. According to Liu, style is translatable and the following methods may prove to be effective in practice: corresponding; recasting; decoloring. Meantime, a careful study of the language features about Ah Q Zheng Zhuan is conducted. In chapter three, the author will give a detailed analysis of formal markers of this short story from four perspectives. The main study focuses on how these stylistic formal markers are transferred in Yang's version and what methods are used by translators to produce a stylistically equivalent translation. The last part exhibits us a brief summary by recapitulating the main arguments. Translators have used the method of corresponding and the combination of recasting and decoloring, which contributes a lot to the successful rendering of the original style.
