As social animal, human being, first of all, exists as form of group, then of individual. This means that people are always in the relationship between "others" and "self" and face the choice of egotism and altruism. Egotism and altruism has been a disputing issue and many thinkers in the history discussed it and made outstanding contributions, among them the most famous representative is Adam Smith, a British philosopher, thinker and economist in the eighteenth century. Therefore, this dissertation chooses "Adam Smith Problem" as a starting point, reinterprets this problem, explores the question how to unify egotism and altruism and finds the economic performance in the socialist market. The author analyzes the root causes of the problem from three aspects, the subjective, objective and the conflict of subjective and objective, then tries to figure out solutions from view of economic construction and ethic construction.
