The Five Contemplative Gates And Faith Salvation

Indian Buddhism can be classified into five stages,namely the Original Buddhism period,the Department Buddhism period,the Maadhyamika of Mahayana period,the Yogacara of Mahayana period,Tantric of Mahayana period.Yogacara Buddhism is one of the two major schools of Mahayana.It is said that Maitreya is the founder of Yogacara,however,Modern scholars believe that brothers Asa.nga and Vasubandhu are the actual founder."Wuliangshoujingyuanshengji" is called "Ching-t'lun"or "Wangshen lun" for short,which wrote by Vasubandhu who leaves home and becomes a monk of "The Sarvaastivaada school"in fourth century A.D.India,and then he became an eminent monk of Yogaacaara School."Wuliangshoujingyuanshengji" is the only systematic elaboration book about "Pure Land Buddhism in India".In later generations, Chinese and Japanese founders of Pure Land Sect have cited text of" Ching-t'u lun "to interpret.So,the "Ching-t'u lun"has unique importance to development for methods of Amitabha Pure Land practice in later generation.In researching on Buddhism philosophy of India,we can differentiate two large directions these are "The path of the deliverance" and "The path of the bodhisattva",according to different vows of gymnosophist,structures of methods for practicing,course,directions and goals.Main purpose of the former large direction is clears up agony to extricate from desires and passions and Samsara of life and death,finally seeks individual extrication (self-interest).The goal of the latter direction is develops fortune and wisdom fully and completely,finally achieves "Supreme Perfect Enlightenment" which will be expected to salving all living things(benefiting him)."Ching-t'u lun" of Vasubandhu act in accordance with the "The path of the bodhisattva".Owing to reasons of explanation:nobody can put aside "Five Contemplative gates" if he or she willing to be rebirth in Pure land;no way but "Five Contemplative gates" can make people rebirth in pure land or the happiest world;and gets thorough disengagement according to "way of beneficial to self" and "way of beneficial to himself".The Overseas scholar Richard K.Payne believes that salvation theory of "Ching-t'u lun" is "awrayaparavrtti" not idea of"Faith" in the later generation which causing new thiking way of the author.The author of this thesis tries to newly explain implication of "Faith" in primary India in part of negotiation between "Faith" and "Buddha nature";discuses relevance between "Faith" and "Samatha"and "Vipassana".All of these will be used to prove "Faith" idea is the core of salvation of" Ching-t'u lun".The thesis can be classified into four parts.Partâ… :The author introduces background of "Ching-t'u lun".The author investigates creating background of "Ching-t'u lun",discusses overall constructions and core thoughts of "Ching-t'u lun",which combines with original materials and researches of experts in Buddhism history.Partâ…¡:The practice path of "Ching-t'u lun".The author mainly elaborates "Five Contemplative gates" is item for practicing which is focus on"Samatha"and "Vipassana",practicing method of self-interest and benefit him which is a group as five individual systematically.Partâ…¢:The salvation theory of "Ching-t'u lun".This part mainly analyzes between "Samatha"and "Vipassana" and "Faith",from a new angle "Faith " and "the Buddha-nature",and discusses historical impact of "Faith" and prove the salvation theory.Partâ…£:The author comes to conclusion.The author gets summarization to whole content which is discussed in the thesis.
