With the development of globalization, China takes an increasingly important part in the international cooperation and competition in economy and technology and has achieved great success in the fields of politics, economy and culture. In the meantime China has successfully held international activities. All these promote the degree of internationalization of humanity and language environment of the internationalized metropolis and the surrounding areas.Public signs translation in shopping centers plays an irreplaceable role in social development and international community. It firmly establishes the images, embodies the degree of civilization under globalization and influences the commercialization of cities.Public signs are important components of global language and humanity environment of international metropolis with special text pattern. Any ambiguity, misunderstanding or misuse may cause bad international effect. However many problems are found in this field through investigation. It's urgent to make research on this topic.Functional Approach plays an important role in the instruction of public signs translation. The core theory is that the functions (skopos) determine the process of translation, especially the choice of strategies, namely the end justifies the means. The intended functions of the target text may be carried out in the target language culture. The intended receivers, audience or the addressees are the most important aspects that determine the translation purpose.With Functional Approach as the basic theory, the thesis consists of six parts. The first part deals with the significance, present state and limitation of the previous study. In the second part the development of Functional Approach, three representatives and their core theories are given. The third part is the overall introduction of the public signs translation in shopping centers: the definition, the functions, the information construct and the enlightenment of the Functional Approach on public signs translation in shopping centers. In the fourth part translation errors are analyzed from the perspective of linguistic, pragmatic and cultural aspects with a variety of examples. In the fifth part some suggestions are put forward accordingly with respect to the translation research, translators or users and translation practice. Finally a conclusion is made to sum up the whole thesis—contributions, limitations of the research and suggestions for further study.
