Research On The Relationship Between Chinese Onomatopoeia And Phonological Systems

Onomatopoeia is a kind of word which imitate the sounds in the actual world and is commonly found in Chinese language. They have very important effect on enhance the language characters of intuitionistic, visual and vitality. Onomatopoeia is a specia kind of words by imitating the actual sounds.The pronunciation of onomatopoeia resembles its meaning.This thesis analyses the relationship between onomatopoeia and phonological systems which bases on the corresponding description of the onomatopoeia examples in Shanghai, Beijing and Chongqing dialects—the pronunciations of onomatopoeia have both restriction and transcendency of phonological systems. The aim of this thesis is to make some discussion to the relationship between the Chinese onomatopoeia and phonological systems,in order to enlighten a idea of the onomatopoeia research and also do some contribution to the research.The onomatopoeia,as denotation ,has a very special relation of pronunciations and meanings.The governing function of pronunciations of onomatopoeia receives much effect from phonological systems, which behaves in the apperceive and imitation for the onomatopoeia.Users of phonological systems are always inclined to apperceive and form the pronunciations of onomatopoeia within their phonological confine and ability. Onomatopoeia under different phonological systems which imitate the same actual sounds has obvious peculiarity of phonological systems. The restriction of phonological systems has the reasons of the language development, cognitive psychology and semeiology.The pronunciations of onomatopoeia also transcend phonological systems in some aspect. Some actual sounds is very hard to imitate,so there may be some different strategy in process of imitation.Therefore the pronunciations of onomatopoeia contain some syllables and constitution of the syllables and tones which transcend the phonological systems.Also some phoneme can't make different meanings.This thesis is composed by five parts:Chapter one is the introduction. It introduces the aim and the significance of the research at first, and also it summarizes the situation and main questions of previous research for onomatopoeia,at last it introduces the studying range and the studying methods of this thesis.Chapter two provides the classification of the onomatopoeia examples in Shanghai,Beijing and Chongqing dialects, observes both restrictive and transcendental parts for phonological systems in onomatopoeia through making lists,and analyses them. And then it sets forth the basic point of view that the pronunciations of onomatopoeia have both restriction and transcendency of phonological systems which it exists in.Chapter three puts the main emphasis on the angle of theory analysis, and expounds the restriction of phonological systems for onomatopoeia with circumstance, using the theories of the language development,cognitive psychology and semeiology.Chapter four puts the main emphasis on the transcendency of phonological systems for onomatopoeia. It includes the reasons and the types for the transcendency of phonological.Chapter five is the conclusion for this thesis,which provides the summative illumination for this kind of relationship between onomatopoeia and phonological systems.
