On Nietzsche's Ideas About Music

The concept of music is an entrance gate of Nietzsche's several categories, like the art, the legend, the will of power and the value of life. This thesis takes this concept as the point of penetration, and what the content covers is including the retrospect and restructure of the ancient Greece tragedy and legend, and inheriting and criticizing of Schopenhauer and Wagner's music ideas. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the inner relationship of Nietzsche's thoughts of spirit of music and his own philosophy system. Such relation is not preexistent and self-evident but being structured by peruse and probe the text.The meaning of such restructure is to show another way to explain Nietzsche's idea, through put the spirit of music together with the current age's problem. It includes several aspects as follows, firstly, Nietzsche base the Dianysian's spirit and its artistic force of music upon the Appllonian's beauty illusion, and for the great esteem he express for an art-physiology, by opposing to the image trend of our modern society and the conceptualization from the age of Socrates. And secondly, he base the characters of music such as direct-viewing and experiencing upon the reasonable and abstract language, since the language can not seize the world as a whole, and becoming the obstacle of life. And the thirdly, Nietzsche take life as aesthetic phenomenon, so that the existence and the world are justified to eternity, and oppose to take the "truth" or "morality" as the standard of value, following the critical of Wagner' decadency music, Nietzsche complete the transform from the spirit of Dianysian to the will of power.Through the discussion above, we can know about Nietzsche's idea of music and his special problem toward the current ego, and we can find his philosophy thoughts about anti-nation, art-metaphysics, the will of live and the sense of value. The most important and realistic meaning are both the retrospect of ancient Greek's tragedy and the Wagner' decadency music reflect the problem of Germany spirit in modern times. Nowadays, as the issue of modernity becomes more and more obvious, Nietzsche's criticize gives our important clues to recognize and overcome the crisis of modernity, as well as to the restructure of historical-cultural consciousness as a whole.
