This study was designed to investigate the status of music education student teaching in the universities of Shanghai .The main content included: the status of music education student teaching, the current practice of innovation, the differences between the trainees of different schools. According to the findings of the study, made recommendations to the college administration, instructors, advisors, and student teaching in the future.This study mainly applied quantitative and qualitative research methods. The subject of the questionnaire study contained 3 advisors of universities, 118 music education students and 10 school music teachers, the object of the case study is a practice teaching base of East China Normal University. According to the results of literature review, the researcher compile "the Status of Music Education Student teaching in the Normal Universities of Shanghai " to be a research tool, including :(1) questionnaire of the instructors in universities (2) questionnaire of the trainees of music education department (3) questionnaire of the instructors in Teacher training base. The researchers invited five experts to assess the validity of the questionnaires, analyzed the reliability and discrimination of the questionnaires by predicting survey. After repeatedly modified and adapted. Accomplish the formal questionnaire, finally. The researcher carried the survey and recovered the data obtained from the questionnaire in December 2008, used descriptive statistics for data processing.The conclusion is as follows:1. The practice teaching of music education in three universities are all be scheduled in the early seventh semester, lasting 6-8 weeks. And all based on single-cycle practice teaching mode. Two universities have fixed bases, and universities always use focus practical ways to arrangement practice teaching school.2. In Shanghai, there are more than 3/2 trainees of music education are arranged to the practice teaching by the universities. Most of the trainees are arranged in the middle school .They practice 3-4 times music classroom teaching averagely in one week.3. Almost of the practice teaching base in Shanghai have accepted the trainees whose major is non-music education But most of the instructors in practice teaching base think there are no communications between music trainees and non-music trainees. But most of the instructors inpractice teaching base think the trainees are helpful to their work.4. In Shanghai, the music education trainees' professional skills and theoretical knowledge is better than the education teaching ability, class management capacity, and the educational research capacity.5. The different background variables trainees of music education department have a number of differences in education teaching status, self-evaluation, and the recommendations to teaching practical.6. Comparing with the traditional practice teaching ,the high school practice teaching base in Pudong have many advantages on time arrangement, content, procedures, and evaluation .It is worth be used for reference.
