Hermeneutic Perspectives Of Translation In Chinese Cultural Transmission

At the end of 1970s, western hermeneutics found its way into China and, since then, has had a persistent influence on the study of humanities among China's scholarly circles. In the realm of translation, hermeneutics has raised concern on its power in decipherment, not to mention its pragmatic interpreting excellence. It is considered indispensable in spreading a cultural message cryptic in the source context, and this proves to be gratifying. Thanks to its expounding function, hermeneutics has ushered in a new era which bounteously embraces the ethno-origin and uniqueness of the source language. In purveying theory sufficiency and practice stand, hermeneutics has respected and acknowledged an interacting role played by the translator in cross-cultural rendition.Cultural transmission has raised Chinese scholars'concern since the western world has keenly noticed China as a mysterious country with its economy becoming stronger and stronger. In this regard, this thesis would start an approach to hermeneutic translation in cultural transmission.This thesis consists of five parts. Chapter 1 gives an introduction to the study trails of hermeneutics in western countries as well as in China, covering the motion of Continental philosophers and Steiner's, hermeneutic studies of translation in China, and then brings forward necessary studies in the future.Chapter 2, hermeneutic theories in an ordinary recapitulation, which is followed by a general introduction to the relevance of hermeneutics with the existence of translation, relationship between hermeneutics and translators'subjectivity, fusion of horizons, perspective of prejudice and horizon of expectation.Chapter 3 probes into trans-cultural interpreting, which touches upon the relevancy of language, culture, translation, and in particular, Chinese culture and interpretation in translation from a hermeneutic perspective.Chapter 4 posts a specific approach to Chinese myth and fantasy, this chapter centralized on the imago and features of Chinese myth in previous presentation but pivoted on the succedent construal of seven cases, and subsequently a general review sums up the analysis that it would be perfect to find a counterbalance between objective interpreting and the translator's subjectivity so as to reveal the original text and its cultural message.Chapter 5 is a conclusion that rewords the hermeneutic efficacy in translating Chinese antiquity culture.
