Tourism materials play an important role in international tourism industry. The function of tourism texts is to inform and attract tourists. Tourism culture is a typical category of Chinese culture. It can be generally divided into five categories: religious culture, historical culture, cuisine culture, landscape culture and festival culture. Due to the huge difference between Chinese and Western culture, the translation of tourism culture plays a vital role in the C-E tourism translation.Because the purpose of C-E tourism translation is to provide traveling information and arouse the foreign tourists' intersts of coming to China, studying C-E tourism translation in the light of Skopostheory shall be of great help to translation practice. Theories including Skopostheory, Nord's function plus loyalty principle and Reiss' text-type classifications and communicative translation of culture all provide very useful guidelines for tourism translation, although they are different in the process of guiding translation practice.In order to attract foreign tourists to come to China and promote Chinese culture, tourism translation should be tourist-centered and culture-promotion. Due to the different cultural background of foreign tourists and Chinese, the author in this thesis has proposed some useful translation methods such as analogy, amplification, metaphrase, paraphrase and transliteration in the hope of overcoming the cultural gaps as well as making the C-E translation version to reach the best communicative effect.The thesis has reached the conclusion that: Skopostheory can be used as the quality standard for the C-E tourism translation. The translator who uses Skopostheory fluently and has a good grasp of the main translation methods can make sure of the good quality of the translation version. The author hopes the thesis can bring some help to the improvement of the C-E tourism translation as well as the development of China's tourism industry.
