Among the three main external environments, which influence the individual development, home environment plays an important role early and directly. Therefore, it may influence individual deeply and thoroughly. Home Environment for Secondary School Student means parents or other senior family members have a real-time or delayed influence on individuals, which exclude any specific educational actions and activities. Not only does home environment affect the mental health of secondary school students, but also affects their academic performance, moral and character cultivation deeply. For this purpose, this research is aiming at developing a home environment questionnaire which is used to survey the home environment of secondary school students. Then, it may make a practical and theoretical contribution to creating positive and favorable home environment for secondary school students.Based on overviews of former researchers, the theoretical hypothesis is constructed. According to the results of interviewing several excellent parents and investigating 120 secondary school students with open-ended questionnaire, the Preliminary Home Environment Questionnaire is constructed. After surveying 1250 secondary school students with the preliminary questionnaire, the research has adopted the way of exploratory factor analysis, and then the formal questionnaire is scientifically constructed. The reliability and validity of the formal questionnaire is verified theoretically and practically.The result of this research suggests:(1) The self-designed Home Environment Questionnaire for secondary school students is of high reliability and fair validity. It can be used as an evaluative implement to scale the home environment of secondary school students. By analysis of exploratory factor, the result of this research suggests there are six dimensions existed about home environment: harmony, intimacy, communication, culture, self-cultivation and democracy.(2)Through the preliminary application of the self-designed questionnaire, it is found that there is a high positive correlation between home environment of secondary school student and their"academic performance","morality and behavior". Therefore,it is verified that the self-designed questionnaire can be a scientific and reliable instrument to scale the home environment of secondary school students.(3)Overall, statistically there are no significant differences between home environment of secondary school students and the school category. However, sexually it is only male secondary school students from different categorical schools that show significant differences: town school> rural school> city school.
