Claudio Monteverdi(Claudio Monteverdi, 1567-1643), the Italian composer, is the great person as a link between the later period of Renaissance and the early stage of Bar oque musical period , and builds of music between these two periods. He has not only constructed the foundation of music play, but also used timbre effect of the stringed instruments vibrato and dials at first time, and as a result, his great achievements has made a deep impact on the opera, the harmonics and the symphony.From his teen to middle age, till the old age, Monteverdi has devoted his whole life to composing madrigal and publishing eight volumes of Madrigal altogether. The ninth volume was published in 1651, after his death. The process of composing madrigal with various styles just records the entire process of his whole life's composing style.Through these madrigal, Monteverdi presents not only the developed track of his composing, but also the dynamics of creation foundation and composing way in different styles. No matter where he lives, in the birthplace of violin -Cremona, or in the paradise of art—Mantua , even in the distinguished place flourishing with 17th Europe's opera—Venice, he has always immersed himself in these artistic graces and essences to compose the perfect music works. Eight madrigal volumes have laid the master position of Montreal Will in this field. Moreover, his unique composing skill and art achievements in musical effects should be regarded as a model , no matter in the cromatic scale tendency, in vivid description, color effect, single melody and vocal music.The thesis includes: prolegomenon, which could be regarded as the introduction. This part mainly introduces the significance of the proposing of thesis, the research methodology and related literature reviews in both domestic and overseas; first chapter, the brief introduction of Italian madrigal, combined with the information of both historical and musical development of madrigal and the summarising statement of its style and characteristics; second chapter, the reviews of Monteverdi's life and a general introduction of his madrigal; the third chapter, which could be regarded as the core of this dissertation, discussed the composing style with the introduction of three distinguished periods in his life, including his youth in Cremona, the artistic life in Mantua and mature time in Venice, and analyzes 6 representative madrigal with the certain selected 3 periods respectively; fourth chapter is the section of evaluation and commenting, it explained the key elements of Monteverdi's madrigal , while evaluates the contribution of Monteverdi to Italian madrigal and his madrigal's aesthetic value in objective way of evaluation; the fifth chapter is the conclusion and also can be regarded as the section of further introduction, it is a beneficial supplement aiming at the historical materials in order to make the dissertation more structuralised and more reliable in academic aspects.
