From 1960s',Chinese-American Literature witnessed a tough shift, from"submerged"to"recover",finally to"entering to mainstream".Today, some Chinese–American works was chosen to university textbook, even become an important part of American literature and culture. At the same time, related research in China, which throve from 1980s',strengthen in the past 30 years, and will be certained to gain more attention in the future. This thesis based on text, aim to analyze Chinese-American Literature from the angle of culture.There are four parts in this thesis. In chapter one, I will distinguish two group of definition, define the exterior of research.In chapter two, I will set"tea"and"ghost"for example, revealing that cultural crash and cultural convergence are two main ways when confronting Chinese and American culture. Then the conclusion is: It's a necessary diversion from cultural clash to cultural convergence, from history to fact.In chapter three,"Tang Ao","Guan Yu","Hua Mulan"as examples, proving the effect on text structure and Chinese-American history reconstruction.In chapter four, I set"Qu Yuan","Cai Wenji","Monkey King"for example, present how Chinese-American writers learn from Chinese culture, and explore the future orientation—negotiation and convergence.And the overall conclusion is: Chinese cultural symbol in Chinese-American Literature is neither a original Chinese symbol nor American symbol. Their representation in text is a writing tactics in western background , Chinese cultural symbol is a sign of cultural identity ,but also a indication of struggle for cultural negotiation and combination between history and fact, which done by these writers.
