On Decadent Oriention Of Chinese Modern Writers

The word of Decadence originates from western art and literature. Decadent literature regards Baudelaire, who was a famous french poet in late 19 century, as earliest ancestor. Decadent mind also exists in chinese traditional culture, but is different from western concept. Chinese refomers and revolutioners seeked all the way to find prescriptions for the old and corrupted China, so western minds and thoughts flooded into the old land, in which Darwinism was the most influential one. However, chinese society and system had not been improved to the level that refomers expected according to the logic of linear time. Therefore, disillusional emotions affected contemporary writers to produce works which had decadent style.Decadence is one face of modernity. The boom of city brought physical comfort to writers who lived in ShangHai, and spiritual emptiness on the contrary. Shanghai had been a famous metropolis at that time, so merchant temptation and comsumerism lured the writers to produce works of decadence. The writers, such as xunmei Shao, zhecun Shi, employed sex desire as the mail subject of their works. Dozens of writers are involved in the thesis, their achievements attibuted to their own affections, overseas experiences and the influence of western literary masters.
