The changes of Chinese American women's social status and their important role currently being played has helped greatly to promote the position of Chinese Americans in general in American society. This thesis first illustrates the brief history of Chinese immigration of which women are a part, and analyses the causes of the improved conditions of Chinese American women in the perspectives of women's contribution, feminist movement and the abolition of anti-Chinese laws. The thesis then demonstrates the prominent successes made by Chinese women, and finally focuses on the impediment to Chinese women's fully assimilating into the larger society in the true sense of the word and proposes related strategies for overcoming these difficulties. All these lead to the revelation that Chinese American women can and will become an indispensable and naturalized part of the American mainstream society, while still maintaining their ethnic identity.
