As an integral part of comparative linguistics, the studies of language between Chinese and English have been a focus in this field for many years. The comparative study about the meaning of words in Chinese and English has been showing a picture of prosperity since the 90's of the 20th century. Various monomial classified researches have also been made more fruitful results, but the meaning relationship of Chinese-English correspondence word has still lacked the systematic analysis and pectination yet. This paper is based on 1,000 high frequency substantives in modern Chinese, make use of a large number of language data, and analyze the words in Chinese and its correspondence word in English. Classify on these words is in order to make a more viable overall description about the meaning relationship of the Chinese-English equivalent words. Thesis is divided into four parts:The first part is introduction. Mainly introduced what contrastive linguistics is, and make a sense of comparative linguistics and the historical development of Chinese-English contrast. Then, it generally introduces the research actuality of glossarial contrast between Chinese and English, and makes a brief description of the significance of this study and the research methods.The second part is based on the "commonly used in modern Chinese vocabulary (Draft)", put forward the principles and methods of selection about 1000 notional words that are commonly used in Modern Chinese, and do the statistics on the word class distributing of these words. On this basis, through the comparison of the Chinese-English Dictionary, elicit these equivalent words in English of 1000 words in Chinese.The third part, according to Chinese-English equivalent words that has been confirmed above, Compare the rational meaning, cultural meaning, and the rationale meaning in Chinese-English equivalent words, and make use of examples:First, these words that have same rational meaning in Chinese-English equivalent words, focus on scientific terms, proper nouns and the translation of the word of abstract concepts. Chinese and English have a lot of multivocal words, so rational meaning sometimes are not equivalent in the Chinese-English equivalent words, included inclusive correspondence, crossed correspondence and disrelation (rational meaning vacancy) and so on. Second, there are less correspondence about cultural meaning of Chinese-English equivalent words, non-correspondence phenomenon is normal, including:lack, disrelation and conflict of equivalent cultural meaning. Third, as a useful complementarity about comparative study of word meaning, based on the research above, discuss the content and significance about the rationale meaning in Chinese-English equivalent words. It includes equivalent, scarcity and distinctness about rationale meaning. The main reasons for the difference are the different comparison meaning of equivalent words, visual meaning and comparison meaning appear different occasions is another important reason.Part fourth is conclusion, analyze the relationship between 1000 Chinese notional words and their English equivalent words, and elicit the framework on the corresponding meaning relationship of Chinese-English equivalent words.
