Recently, with the rapid development of economy and gradually fastened pace of life, various factors that would cause psychological tension have greatly emerged. Although many scholars have paid close attention to the operation of psychology counselling in colleges and universities, there is still some space for improvement in this aspect according to currently available reserch findings. This study is an overall investigation on the current situation of psychology counselling in the colleges and universities in Shanghai. Based on previous research findings, this study aims to find out existing problems in this field and explore its path of development. Meanwhile, the author hopes this study can provide some beneficial suggestions to the psychology counselling work and promote its development. The study results reveal that the hardware devices, management and exterior supporting system are not satisfactory in most colleges and universities in Shanghai. Besides, the psychology counselling staff are inexperienced and with high academic degree. The personnel arrangement is obscure for those people and most of them are part-time psychology counsellors. These factors will affect their professional posts and their career promotion. There are also opposing points of views on the training issues for professional qualification certificates. Generally speaking, the psychological situation of the college students in Shanghai is fairly good. Compared with female students, male students show more problems in depression and monomania. Three factors that rank the highest in the list of psychological problem-causing factors are employment and academic problems, personal relationship and emotional problems. The psychology counselling model in colleges and universities in Shanghai is far from diversified. They mainly carry out case counselling with face to face counselling as the approach. Other approaches of counselling are rarely used. Many counselling staff hold the point of view that related departments should have a settled personnel arrangment system for them, establish and improve the supervision system of psychology counselling, and improve post-career training system. They believe only in this way can the psychology counselling group be built fastly. They also hope that the Ministry of Education in our country, the Education Bereau of Shanghai and the college and university administration can pay more attention to psychology counselling centers, provide relevant system and policy support, and integrate social resources so as to leave more space for the development of the psychology counselling of the colleges and universities in Shanghai.
