To every person, learning is an essential mission in his life, while finding an effective way to learn is not so easy. In fact,"Today more than eighty percent of education contents should be learning approach. Learning approach is more important than learning itself."(Zhou Baochun,2004) "Only when people know how to learn and master the learning approaches and strategies can it be said that they have received education."(Rogers,1969) Learning Strategy is an extremely important factor affecting English learning of college students among all varieties of factors, for instance, learning environment, learning motive, attitude, personality and gender. At present, a lot of college teachers only pay attention to teaching knowledge, and ignore instilling of the learning strategies, which weakened the learning effect. This thesis introduces some findings and ideas that attainted from researches into foreign language learning. It concentrates mainly on some effective approaches which can help us on listening and speaking English. As we know, there are five aspects of language skills:listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. Of those five aspects, listening and speaking skills are especially useful for one's English ability. Fully commanding the metacognitive strategy, cognitive strategy, affection strategy, communication strategy can help college students build more learning confidence, and hold learning ability for their whole life. So it is an urgent demand for college English teaching to command learning strategies.At present, the study of learning strategy in China has already been mature, but its practical using in English speaking and listening aspects still needs more attention. As for the Navigation major students, the requirements for English speaking and listening arc far higher, so they have to better command the English learning strategy.Firstly, this paper sets forth the definition and classification of learning strategies, and introduces the development and current situation of its study. Questionnaires are presented in this paper on the basis of the theory of learning strategies. By collecting, organizing and analyzing the data, this paper investigates the current using situation of learning strategy by navigation major students. The analysis result of questionnaires shows that, current employment situation of learning strategy by navigation major students is not quite positive. Both listening strategies and speaking strategies fall in the category of medium frequency use. In the aspect of listening strategies, all these four category of strategies are sometimes used by the students. Among the four categories, the category of affection is the most frequently used, and then is cognitive and metacognitvie category. The communication strategies turn out to be the least frequently used strategies. Through T-test analysis, the high proficiency group and low proficiency group are significantly different in employing cognitive and affective listening strategies. In the aspect of English speaking strategies, only affection strategies are often used by the students. Other three categories of strategies, that is, metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies and communicative strategies are sometimes used by students. Among these four strategies, metacognitive strategies are the least frequently used. Through T-test analysis, the high proficiency group and low proficiency group are significantly different in employing all these four categories of listening strategies.At last, on the comprehensive of relative theory and the analysis of research data, this paper brings on some suggestions on spoken and listening English learning for navigation major students.
