After the reform and opening up, Shanghai has a fully fast development through modernization and faces challenges. The modern prosperous Shanghai makes a big surprise to the public by creating a new cultural imagination. The present paper, at first, attempts to review the images of Shanghai from the building of PRC on and get the trend of development of movie focused on the Shanghai, in order to have a bird-view of the characteristics of the movies on Shanghai in different periods. And then, in accordance with the introduction and literature review on the image of Shanghai mentioned above in preface. The new image of Shanghai, which would be generally got by analyzing all kinds of films in recent decade, can be categorized into an availably descriptive model in line with modern ambiguous "Shanghai Image" existing in the public. The Image of modern Shanghai has multi-leveled interpretations because of different local cultures among native films, films made in Gang-tai district and films made by the cooperation with foreign countries, and Shanghai is endowed with new meanings by new times in which there exist modern high buildings and noisy crowed uptowns, which could be gained from analyzing texts on how symbols of Shanghai are rearranged. And the paper aims to analyze the influences by environment and human activities and to unfold the image of Shanghai. Besides, the present paper attempts to discuss the production and the acceptance of Shanghai Image from the perspectives of creators and recipients ignored by researchers as to have a deep exploitation of images and fashions and the major factors influencing them, and to know mental motivation and imaginary logic of the participants, audiences, or authors, from point of view of social-mental level. Specially, in the consumer society, the audience has played an important role in the creation of films. Last but not least, it will be on the significance of Shanghai image. Throughout paper, the discussion is set under the background of globalization and with the examination of the China film system and the environment of market, to search the background, quality and tradition of Chinese urban films and more practical significance.
