With the arrival of a new era, the rapid speed of modernization and civilization advancement featuring scientific and technological revolution have dramatically changed the living space of human beings. Urban outlooks are transformed and urban environment is valued. Public facilities, as an essential part of urban environment, not only fulfill their basic functions, but also exemplify the spirit of the times and urban culture. They represent the style of a city, the outlooks of society and life style of citizens. Different countries, areas and cities have different geological features, histories and cultures. To improve the public facilities designs in China, we should integrate local history and development background based on the local culture to present cities'characteristics and cultural tradition.Based on the Hunan culture, this article aims to explore the Hunan cultural features of Changsha public facilities. This article takes the Changsha Huangxing South Road Business Pedestrian Street, riverside scenic belts of Xiang River and Taiping historical and cultural street as examples. Vertically, it studies their Hunan cultures, including geological, historical and cultural features. Horizontally, it analyzes the elements of Changsha public facilities designs, including their styles, decorations, textures and colors. It tries to point out the defects and put forward ideas and methods for further improvement, which can serve as a reference to the design and planning of public facilities in other cities.
