Tourist texts, as an effective way to introduce the background information of the tourist spot to the world, play a more and more important role in prompting the development of Chinese tourism and conveying Chinese culture. The ultimate aim of tourist texts of Chinese- English translation is to attract foreign tourists to tour in China and introduce Chinese culture by the way of the conveyance of effective tourist information. The success of tourist texts of Chinese-English translation depends a lot on readers'response to the translation and the acceptance to the translation.Aesthetic reception is a literary criticism theory, which focuses on the readers'reception and emphasizes the place of the reader. Aesthetic reception concerns the close relationship between the reader and the text, and holds that it is dynamic for the reader to fill the meaning to the text. Horizon of expectation and the response-inviting structure of the text are the main concepts of aesthetic reception. Due to the different thinking mode, knowledge structure and customs, readers with different cultural backgrounds have their inherent subjective factors such as standpoint, viewpoint and appreciation before reading the work, which make up of different readers'horizon of expectation. Text's response-inviting structure is made up of the indeterminacy and the vacancy in meaning. The text relies on the meanings'indeterminacy and vacancy to invite readers to read the text and endow the text with the determinate meaning to fill the vacancy of the text meaning.This paper focuses on Chinese-English translation of Shanxi tourist text, from the perspective of aesthetic reception, putting literary theory applied to non-literary translation. Through the enlightenment of aesthetic reception in Chinese-English translation of tourist texts, it proposes two translation principles: the principle of tourist-centered and the principle of Conveying source-culture oriented. In the matter of translation strategies, double-level of translation strategies are recommended. When setting response-inviting structure, the translator is suggested to adopt foreignization strategy to attract tourists and satisfy the curiosity of tourists; when there is distance between tourists'horizon of expectation and the translated tourist text, on the language level, the translator could employ the domestication strategy to shortening aesthetic distance to help readers enjoy the relaxed reading process and meet the tourists'original horizon of expectation; and on the culture level, it is recommended to employ the strategy of foreignization to maintain some Chinese culture for broadening tourists'existing horizon of expectation and accomplishing the aim of conveying Chinese culture. Last, the paper makes Shanxi tourist texts as case using some translation techniques, such as annotation, amplification, explanation, analogy, omission, restructuring and shifts of perspective.It is a beneficial attempt from the perspective of aesthetic reception to explore the translation of tourist text, aiming to provide some help for translators and improve the quality of Shanxi tourist text translation. It is sincerely hoped that aesthetic reception applied in the translation of Shanxi tourist text attracts more attention, and that the paper can act as a model and also a reference for developing research in the translation of tourist text.
