Concerto originates from the Latin Collcertaye. Being the most dramatic type among the instrumental music, it's a cycle played by band with cooperation of solo instruments. We can enjoy the solo, the performance of the band, and most importantly, the perfect harmony of canto and instruments. The only one type of classical music that can compare well with the tremendous symphony is concerto. The band and the piano reveal a relationship, in which the dramatic factor of the piano concerto of Barouque reflect, of harmony through antagonism, of uniform through contradiction.Our Chinese composers have made new exploration to develop our national concertos with erhu,flute,suona horn,lute as the solo instruments, among which The Butterfly Lovers Leon and Jo,Little sisters of grassland,Forest are magnum opera, characterized with thick national spirit.In recent years, piano music with Chinese traditional music as material boom. However, music based on Tangshan Shadow Play are few. The late Tangshan native composer Yang Yu, drawing on the experience and achievements of forefathers, merged Tangshan Shadow Play with the occidental piano concerto. The special artistic technique, music structure and harmony deserve our deep study of his Piano Concerto in C Major to explore the conditions and customs of Tangshan.With Tangshan Shadow Play aria as the theme music, Piano Concerto in C Major reflects the calamity and suffering that imposed on the Tangshan people by the earthquake and extols Tangshan people's strong will and confidence to conquer the disaster and build a brand new Tangshan. This is an invigorating national symphony created through painstaking work. On the head page, Yang Yu wrote to my town fellows and my dear teacher.Today, Chinese traditional music has been becoming more and more international, because of which we have to face not only the problem of protection and inheritance, but also the continuity and development. It is an exigent task to blend Tangshan Shadow Play to the modern trend and at the same time keep its own cultural characters, local flavor and nationality. The prosperity of our symphony music depends on the together work of composers, listeners and executants. First of all, the quality of musical works must be enhanced; then, popularize knowledge of symphony. Last but not least, government's foster and the support of executants and social communities like broadcast, record and publication are indispensable.As a Tangshan native postgraduate majoring in piano, I created《Tangshan Shadow Play of Piano Suite》by drawing on the musical form of Piano Concerto in C Major and merging Tangshan Shadow Play and occidental musical structure. According to my students and their parents, they can hum the theme melody of Tangshan Shadow Play and at the same time appreciate the expressive force manifested by the symphony and piano music. It explains that the piano music with local flavors possess vigorous vitality and expansive potential of development. By listening to hometown melody, people can comprehend little by little the strange occidental musical structure and adapt to the occidental musical thought mode so as to take fancy of the symphony. Meanwhile, this kind of works can carry forward Tangshan Shadow Play, exploiting new ways and new thoughts for its development. Thus, Tangshan Shadow Play and occidental piano concerto can promote each other to achieve co-prosperity.
